It took weeks to work up the courage to do what had to be done. Weeks since realizing that the pivotal point was his own brother -- the one being he loved most in the world -- going public with their abilities. Everything had gone crazy from there -- the fear, the persecution, the terror... the enslavement.

And he remembered how fast things had been moving in Odessa. There was no time to step in and stop Nathan -- no time where there were few enough people around that he could just jump in and talk to him.

The only opportunity he had was those few moments while Parkman had everyone's attention riveted on Nathan; between when the press conference started, and when those fateful words left his brother's lips.

He had to silence his own brother, and he could only think of one way to do it.

He had to kill the one being who meant the world to him, to save his own world from the hell it had become.

It would have been less painful to cut out his own heart.

OOC Author's notes: No, I don't believe it was the only way for a second. I think Peter v.2.0 could have easily found a moment or two alone or almost alone with Nathan to tell him before things got that far. Or he could have used his telepathy; could have frozen time and taken Nathan out of there for a minute, etc. etc. etc. BUT, I don't own the little idiot, and I can only rationalize it for him and the writers...
