2009.9.B.7 - ExilePeter has learned that he hates being on the run. He hates everything about it -- not having access to any money (not that money had ever really been important to him, but the convenience of being able to buy some clean clothes and actually take a decent relaxing bath with warm water and real soap is something he's really starting to miss); not being able to sleep somewhere comfortable; having to keep a watchful eye every waking moment and most of the sleeping ones, too; not being able to spend any length of time in familiar places, because he knows they're going to be watching those like a hawk.
But the worst thing is not being able to keep in touch with friends and family. Although maybe not keeping up with family is actually a good thing right now, considering Nathan's the one running this show, and contact with him seems to result in attempts to talk him into willingly allowing them to lock him up for the rest of his natural life.
He used to have connections with people. When he still had all of his abilities, he could feel those connections and could tell when something was wrong; when someone was sad or scared or happy. And when he lost those abilities, he still kept up with people by phone or text or e-mail. Now, with all of them on the run, they're scattered, isolated, alone... And he's learned that while he likes some quiet time occasionally, he does not like to be truly
alone. But they can't afford to get together, can't afford to meet up when so many of them are being watched, can't even contact each other for fear of bringing the enemy down on someone. Right now there really isn't safety in numbers. They can't let the bad guys catch them all, because if they do, there will be no one left to rescue them. Life in exile is better than life in a cage, no matter how nice a cage they claim it might be.
