6.3. Control
Based on RP (Adam-verse) with some S3 Spoilers; set a few days after Thanksgiving wackiness.
He wasn't really sure what alerted him -- whether it was the sound of the man's footsteps, the clumsy attempts to hide his thoughts (That's the Petrelli brat -- follow him and I'll get both of 'em...), or the incessant ...tick tick tick... He became aware of all three almost simultaneously, but it was the last two that caught and held his attention.
Not only was someone following him, someone with an ability was following him -- and whoever it was did not have good intentions. He was pretty sure that 'both of 'em' meant Adam and him, although it could have meant Nathan and him. Either way, he wasn't about to lead the man right to someone he cared about. He frowned, making a quick plan, and continued down the block as if nothing were wrong at all.
The footsteps continued to follow, along with the ticking which, if anything, grew even louder. When he came to the next alley he casually turned down it, acting as if he were taking a short-cut. The footsteps followed, and a small smile curled his lips. If anyone had seen him, they would have noted an expression very much unlike the one he usually wore. No one could see his expression, however, because once he turned down the alley he went invisible. Then he pressed back against the wall of a building, and waited.
It wasn't long before the man followed him into the alley, but then he stopped and looked around, puzzled by the lack of his quarry. Peter used that moment to strike, flicking his fingers almost casually to one side, using telekinesis to throw the man against the wall. His smile grew, and again those who knew him would have worried for him, then, because the expression was far darker than his usual. "Why are you following me?" he asked, still invisible.
The man struggled against the force holding him, looked from side to side, trying to spot him. "Where-- where are you?!"
"I'll ask the questions," he said, stepping closer and tightening the telekinetic grip. "Why are you following me? Who sent you? How did you find me?"
//Not gonna tell you anything...// came the answer; defiant words, but laced with fear. When Peter looked up at him, he saw the terror in the man's eyes. The ticking grew louder, nearly deafening now...
He finally allowed himself to become visible again, met the man's terrified gaze and forced his mind deeper, asking the question both aloud and telepathically. "Why are you following me? Who sent you?"
"No one-- orders--" The man still struggled against him, and he growled quietly, expression darkening even more. "I won't--!"
"Oh, but you will," he purred quietly. ...tick tick tick tick TICK... "How did you find me?"
Panicked, nearly incoherent thoughts flooded the man's mind, but somewhere in the jumble Peter caught ...my ability... and ...Pinehearst... He latched onto that, for a moment nearly letting the man go in surprise. But when the man tried to struggle free, the reflexes Mohinder's ability gave him allowed him to respond quickly, throwing the man back against the wall with a meaty thump.
Peter gave the man a penetrating look, then growled, "Tell me..." He forced his mind deeper, but the man had obviously had at least some training. The attacker's mind slid away, trying to evade his scan, and finally Peter growled, his patience frayed and his temper rising. He could feel the man's intentions; knew that he had been told to capture or kill his targets, and whether it was him and Adam or him and Nathan, he would not allow it.
"I won't let you harm us, and I will find out how you found me," he growled, raising his arm and pointing his index finger at the man's forehead. The ticking was deafening, shattering his patience and the last bit of control he'd been clinging to. This time, the growl was inarticulate, as he twitched his finger and began slicing through the man's skull.
It was only after the man's screams broke through the noise in his head that he realized someone might hear them, and he silenced those cries with a telekinetic pinch to the man's windpipe. Then he let the man fall to the ground and stalked forward, knelt down to probe at his exposed brain. "How did you find me..." he growled quietly, looking, studying. "Ahh..."
He stood up facing down the alley; smiled as he reached out with his mind, a hazy map of the city spreading out before his mind's eye. As he concentrated, his current location came into focus, and with further effort he could see little points of light moving around as people hurried down the sidewalks. He realized some of them were drawing towards the alley, and he muttered, "Shit," then teleported away to the safety of Adam's apartment.
He stood in the middle of the living room, looking around with wild eyes as what he had done finally sank in. He looked down at the blood on his hands, trembling now as adrenaline and fear thundered through his body. "Oh God..." he whispered, letting himself sink to his knees and wrapping his arms tight around his middle, trying not to be ill...

Date: 2008-12-04 06:46 am (UTC)He ran his fingers through Peter's hair, down to cradle the back of his neck. "We'll figure out what it is." With Arthur gone, and with Peter and Sylar both on their side, there wasn't anyone who was a true threat to their combined forces. "Why don't we get you cleaned up, then you can tell me what happened?" He didn't want Claire to see Peter like this.
